Rottweiler Dog

Tequila the Dog needs a home

Tequila is an approximately 5 year old male Rottweiler. He is currently undergoing Heart Worm treatment and will be neutered (at our expense) once he has fully recovered as per his veterinarian.
Tequila was originally an inside dog with a family until their divorce, when neither party wanted the responsibility of him anymore. They left him outside, tied up day and night, and only fed him a few times a week. When we initially went to rescue him, we were told they found an adopter. After only a week, the people who adopted him said that he didn't get along with their dogs and once again, he found himself tied up in a back yard. Upon learning this, we were not going to let him get passed around again so we decided to immediately step in.

Tequila is super sweet but very timid and shy. He gets small bouts of energy, but calms down quickly.  And boy does he looooove going for walks - he doesn't even know he is HW+. He is crate trained and housetrained - although he occasionally gets some anxiety when crated during storms or firework displays. That being said, he has consistently been good when roaming the house as long as he is supervised. As previously mentioned, due to his shyness, he will need an owner who can provide structure and predictability for him to settle in as easily as possible. He is very uneasy about body handling and any gestures that may appear to be threatening to a dog (face to face contact, hugging, etc.). He has been successfully trained to wear a basket muzzle for easier vet visits, which is a plus. But he does need an owner willing to give him the time, respect, consistency, and space that he both needs and deserves.

Tequila has unfortunately had several negative encounters with other dogs throughout his difficult life full of changes (no wonder he's had a hard time adapting and feeling comfortable in his environment!) and because of this, he will probably do best as an only dog. In fact, we know that he will be quite happy as an only dog. BUT, we may consider a meet and greet with a laid back female dog, since, all dogs are individuals and occasionally they do surprise us in regards to who they do and do not tolerate. We have no history of him in regards to cats. And finally, we will not place him into a home with children, as Tequila deserves his space and respect and that is too much to ask of a family with kids.

Tequila knows how to walk appropriately on a gentle leader head collar, how to sit, and how to lay down. His future adopter will receive one free session under RotNDog Training & Behavior Consulting in addition to discounted follow up sessions. He really loves to just hang around his people and relax. He's a special boy looking for a special home, which he is way overdue for.

For further information or questions please contact Chris at 954-325-5227. Tequila is currently being fostered in Broward county FL but we are searching for the perfect home anywhere within a few hours driving distance, because, he won't REALLY be RESCUED until he finds his forever home. Thank you for reading his story!
